Music Workshops

Arts and Soul music workshops are fun and interactive sessions which develop a variety of musical and non-musical skills such as vocal and instrumental improvisation, composition, performance, team work, and confidence-building. Combining elements of African, Folk, Jazz, Blues and Popular music, the workshops are based on vocal, rhythmic and instrumental improvisation. All workshops are based on creative music-making and are adapted to the needs and abilities of the participants as well as to the resources available in the school. All workshops are planned after consultation with the school.

Pupils are inspired to express themselves with confidence and to view improvisation, composition and performance as natural human endeavours. Play & performance-based activities help pupils gain a sense of achievement whilst acquiring key skills and knowledge. At every stage Arts and Soul are expert in planning lessons and activities using the National Curriculum as a foundation for raising standards of singing, instrumental learning, improvisation and composition. Our workshops are adaptable and can focus either on improvisation or composition/songwriting or a combination of both. Furthermore, they can make use of an array of resources depending on needs and requirements as well as the resources available at the school; our workshops can be delivered using just the voice and body percussion or on any and all instruments at our disposal.

Drama Workshops

School Assemblies & other services

Arts and Soul drama workshops are fun and interactive sessions which help develop children's communication and social skills and help to build self-confidence and enhance emotional well-being. Our drama practitioners are highly accomplished in their field and are experienced at using drama & role play to link with any subject or topic. These workshops can help participants to engage with subjects, events, difficulties and challenges in a creative way.

Topic-based half-day workshops lead children to explore their class topic through a series of drama activities including warm ups, acting in role, improvisation, rehearsing and performing.  These drama workshops are based on key curriculum topics (although we do offer a bespoke service so please contact us if you’d like to request another topic).

Arts and Soul offer exciting singing assemblies for the whole school,

Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and EYFS.  These are mainly accompanied by live music and cover a wide range of musical styles drawn from different traditions and repertoires of many composers, songwriters and musicians from the 20th and 21st Centuries.

We run after school singing clubs to further develop children’s love of singing. These cover a wide range of musical styles drawn from different traditions and lead to an end of term performance.

We offer whole class instrumental tuition (using school resources) in which children have the opportunity to play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, and play musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression.

Arts and Soul also offer whole class music lessons in which children have the opportunity to sing, listen and critique composers’ works, develop an understanding of the history of music and begin to learn some simple musical notation. Our delivery of the curriculum is greatly enhanced by the expertise of our music teachers and uses highly musical and exciting activities to achieve the statutory targets.
